Re: newbie looking for advice
hi, yep thats me.
seem to have an issue with the carbs as it only starts on choke and runs better that way too,if you turn the choke off the bike will run but you get the feeling that it's running out of petrol then it just dies.
the bike came with no airbox and just a set of cheapo k&n type things, carbs have been stripped and cleaned before i put the bike together, nothing appeared to be amiss inside them, does have plastic main jets though and i have no idea of standard settings etc as a starting point
i have only got the bike mot yesterday and only done about 50 miles so far,not sure what make of pipes are on it either.
thanks rodge.
sorry not sure how to post pic

Re: newbie looking for advice
hello rodge welcome m8 pics we need pics lol
sounds like a fuel problem to me are you running with standard exhausts if so check main jets should be 87.5 standard if you have fancy pipes and filters id use 105 mains thats what i used on my old bike

Re: newbie looking for advice
I run my x7 with gt250m carbs not stock x7 carbs ...loads better than standard carbs and cheap as chips to buy..I wouldn't recommend them if you're on standard pipes but if you're using spanny's they work great...pics rodge

Re: newbie looking for advice
quick update, plastic main jets are 105,pilots are 25,turn them upside down to read and they look like 52??
needle is set at the top position which i think means it's at lowest point in jet? been a while since i have worked on two strokes so sorry if i sound a bit confused
forgot to say,i would like if possible to use one of the ally baffle tubes from the bits i bought from dcfc jet as an air filter housing and to fit it where the original maico exhaust exited the side panel just to make things a bit more difficult

Re: newbie looking for advice
hi,
thanks for warm welcome,i am based in bristol and built a very simaler bike to this about 30 years ago,now that does make me feel old ,based on a yamaha it425 and a honda 400-4 and that was in the days of drum brakes which made stopping interesting with the extra weight.
if i can brave the cold i may venture in to shed and set needle height to a more average position as a start and see if that helps.

Re: newbie looking for advice
hi,thanks for comment, bike is a lot better than expected now i have ridden it more and gaining confidence in it
ok,bit of a breakthrough, brain started to work and realized that needle clip in wrong place for basic running, said it's a while since i had a 2stroke ,set clip at mid position and with choke off i know have an idle of sorts and engine does not die from fuel starvation now, the bike now accelerates quicker too with less hesitation.
need to sort idle speed next and check balance, which i assume is done with lolly sticks or drill bits i think/hope
is there a certain 2stroke oil i should be using
